Stone guardians are rich and diverse in shapes and each shape has a different symbolic meaning and has a significant effect on Feng Shui.
The lion sculptures not only protect the entrances to gardens, but also the entrances to houses, commercial establishments, condominiums and anything else that is identified as an entrance.
The vast majority are stone lion statues, with their majestic and grandiose appearance, with the aim of protecting and warding off evil spirits.
They are also used for decorative and Feng Shui purposes.
Feng Shui uses lions in specific places to ensure the beneficial effect. When looking out of the property, guarding the entrance, the male is on the left and the female is on the right.
The teeth, paws and eyes of Chinese lions reflect and represent power, unlike the muscular western lion. Incidentally, no muscle appears in Chinese lions. Despite so many variations in appearance, pose and accessories, they were relatively standardized in the Ming and Qing dynasty.
In China, they are traditionally known as Shi meaning Lion, or Shishi, stone lion. In the West, they are better known as “fu dogs”. Alternative terms include “Guard Lions”, “Imperial Guard Lions” and “Temple Lions”
Currently, we can find lions in ceramic, concrete, wood and even fiberglass. Because they are used in various situations, they are very popular.
