Lokta paper
Lokta paper is made from the bark of the Daphne shrub (Nepali name: Lokta), which grows in the Himalayas. The bark regrows naturally and can be reharvested over time without harming the shrub. This is a sustainable method of harvesting.
Lokta paper production is an ancient Nepalese craft. Today, production is carried out primarily by illiterate Nepalese women, who are therefore self-sufficient.
