Jesus sits at the centre in a red tunic and blue cloak. The apostles lean towards one another, and one rests his cheek in his hand. A dark jug stands out against the pale tablecloth, patterned with green stripes and small pink diamonds. In the Catholic tradition, the scene recalls the institution of the Eucharist, commemorated on Holy Thursday.
